Virginia is a beautiful state and there are so many Virginia engagement locations that you can choose from. What I love is that you can drive in just about any direction and you can easily find a beautiful place for your engagement session. I’ve had the opportunity to capture my couples at so many lovely places throughout the state which makes it really is hard to narrow down. But I made sure to make a list of 7 stunning Virginia engagement locations that I truly believe are worth trying out.
The Blue Ridge Mountains creates an amazing backdrop for engagement sessions. I love coming here because it’s a lovely quaint space, but you really can do so much with it. There’s a tree right on the overlook that makes me think of the Lion King, so I may be a little biased about loving that tree, but it seriously is a truly STUNNING place.
Maymont Park basically tops my list of favorite locations in Virginia. It is located in Richmond not too far from Downtown. What I love about Maymont is how often I can go there and not run into a lot of repetition. It is so large and so beautiful between all of the garden you definitely can’t pass it up.
Like UVA, William & Mary comes with so much history. It is located in Williamsburg and your session in a location that captures a lot of the traditional architecture really pairs well with just about anything. I really enjoy coming here because there is a lot of ground to cover and you also can take some time at the legendary love bridge. Click here for the story. It is also good to make plans with exploring the area to make it out into a fun date day.
Yorktown Beach can get pretty crowded during the summer months, but it is absolutely PERFECT during the early spring and fall months. I enjoy the variety that it gives between using the shops as a backdrop but also having the pier and beach areas too. A part of Yorktown Beach that I fell in love with was their section of bamboo. It’s so great with a beautiful touch of vibrancy.
I’m likely going to rave about Swannanoa Palace a lot. It was built by the same person that made Maymont Park, and I mentioned earlier that it is one of my favorite places to have sessions. Swannanoa Palace is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains and I adore how elegant it is. The space is relatively large which allows for you to use the lawn or the indoor part of the palace. I definitely recommend this location if you want to get all nice and dressed up with your sweetheart.
Since I live in Richmond, driving to Northern Virginia can take a lot of time, if you factor in traffic jams throughout the day, but it is usually always worth it in the end. That’s how I felt about hitting up Old Town Alexandria to capture Jamese & Rob. I loved how they had so many options and hidden places that you can get to that can definitely enhance your session. There’s also some AMAZING murals that you can use as a backdrop.
Virginia has so many gems! You really can’t go wrong with picking any of these!
